How does it feel to be behind the lens?
Well, I’m reminded today that my photography is just as important as the work I do for counseling. When I take photos, I get to connect with people. I get to witness firsthand how precious life is. And sadly I get to grieve just as hard with people.
We booked these pictures after a major life changing diagnosis. Something that we knew would impact their lives in a big way. The unknown was scary, but we knew that the whole family would need these photos.
The whole family came for this photo session. All the kids and grandkids came. Everyone knows how chaotic it is to get a big group together but everyone showed up to be with their mother and grandmother.
I don’t know what you see when you look at these photos, but I see nothing but love.
I see a mother and grandmother who showed up for her babies. One who in the midst of discomfort and hurting, came to capture memories with them.
I see a mother who smiled so proudly at what her daughters have grown up to be and a grandmother who beemed with pride because of the legacy she is leaving behind.
And I see a mother and grandmother who gave every last bit of what she had to hold them and love on them until the very last moment. I just know how bad she was hurting and how scared she was. But she did what a good momma does… shows up fully so her babies could make some more memories.
I’m grateful I got a small glimpse into their lives for the day and I’m grateful I got to leave a small memory for them to hold dearly.
This sweet lady will be missed by so many. I didn’t get to experience her love as deeply as her family has, but her presence still left a mark on my life. She has given her family a reason to grieve. Her sweet smile and laugh will be planted on hearts forever. Please pray for this family and be thinking of them today as they lay her to rest.
