For this blog post, I wanted to do a little business spotlight. It has been such an honor to be on the sidelines during the creation and establishment of this counseling practice. I have watched Miranda pour her heart into the development and I feel so lucky that I was able to take headshots for them to help jumpstart it. If you would like to read more about the heart behind this newly founded practice, please continue on.
Why was this practice created and where did “Mindful Path Healing” come from?
To keep it short and sweet, Miranda saw a need in the small Levelland community and filled it. A lot of counseling providers are located in Lubbock, which can be difficult for individuals depending on their time and resources. This opens up the opportunity for more local individuals and families to get the help that they need.
As far as the name goes, Miranda stated that it came to her because “We’re all traveling on a path or on a journey. One thing I’ve learned through life and as a counselor is mindfulness matters so much. It’s not about removing or fixing anything; it’s an awareness of where you’re at. Mindfulness can help you be present. It helps you put one foot in front of the other and makes you more compassionate to yourself to make the needed change.” From the time I have been working with Miranda, I’ve watched this name come to life. She has fostered the environment where any path that leads to this practice will be nurtured well.
What sets Mindful Path Healing apart from others?
First off, it’s local. There are individual providers available in the Levelland area, but Miranda has been encouraging more providers to join to make it more accessible and simpler to get established. Both providers that are currently operating under Mindful Path Healing have been living in this area and have become familiar with resources. They are some of the most resourceful people that I have ever met. If you were to ask me why they are perfect to serve individuals in this area, I would tell you that their experiences have been so diverse. They have broken barriers, learned resiliency and broke generational cycles. I also want to throw it out there that they have a bilingual counselor available. This is huge for this area.
Personal Questions that I wanted to know from the providers:
What got you into the Counseling field?
“My own journey and experiences... Abusive relationships, eating disorders and parenting. Yeah, I could handle it on my own, but I handled it so much better once I had the tools and support that therapy provides. It’s an ongoing journey.” -Miranda
“Trauma… But really... it was the desire to be present for someone in a nonjudgemental safe space… To help give them a voice and normalize life experiences.” -Joanna
What is the most rewarding part of counseling for you?
“Overall, being in a position to give back to the community that raised me. With each client… the most rewarding part is when a client is vulnerable enough because of the safe space you have created. Growth and change happen in that vulnerability“ -Miranda
“Being able to witness change in a client... Normalizing the importance of being vulnerable… Being the person who can actually listen and letting them know they are being heard.” -Joanna
What do you do to create a safe space for your client?
“I intentionally make connections with the person…I have a genuine desire to hold the mirror up and reflect with them. Outside of work… making sure I am an ally and activist… I like being informed. I show up in unsafe places to be a safe place.” -Miranda
“I meet them where they’re at... I provide a nonjudgmental zone... And I validate their feelings. I think they feel safe because they continue to talk and share.” -Joanna
What would you want to tell someone who is feeling fearful or nervous to start counseling?
“You’re probably just fine where you are with no change…that may be sustainable, but there is a strong possibility that things get easier and growth happens so that you don’t have to continue to struggle. And when you’re ready to make that move, we’re here.” -Miranda
“I want to validate that fear, then encourage them to come to counseling because vulnerability is the first step to change.” -Joanna
